Help the Fund Help You!

Before you know it summer will be here and it will be time for the annual July 1st Film Musicians Secondary Markets Fund (formerly known as the Theatrical and Television Motion Picture Special Payments Fund) distribution. That is why we urge you to take a moment, collect your thoughts and consider whether or not the Fund is informed of your most recent address information, any new marriages, divorces, changes in name or beneficiary information. The almighty, most important change is to update your address.

Let’s recap:

The kind of information we most need from you to facilitate a timely check distribution:

  • A current address
  • Phone number
  • Fax and/or email
  • Birthdate
  • Social Security and/or Social Insurance number (if Canadian), and/or U.S. Taxpayer Identification number for foreign individuals living abroad.

The more we know about you, the better we can assist you and ensure there will be no delays in the execution and prompt receipt of your distribution check as well as any other important Fund information.

Remember!

We can only be as successful as you want us to be.

Presently, there is a timeline to consider for the July lst disbursement. If there have been any of the pertinent changes mentioned previously, a phone call is nice, but not enough. Please submit this information to us in writing with your signature by May l5th. In addition to this type of correspondence, your Fund account can be updated through our website at: www.fmsmf.org.

When summertime rolls around and the livin’ is easy, keep an eye peeled for our distribution mailing around the first of July. Be on the lookout for a moderately hefty 8”x10”- sized envelope with our new name:

Film Musicians Secondary Markets Fund

Take special care that it doesn’t wind up on your non-priority, unsolicited (junk) mail stack that may or may not get opened for weeks, months………..years?!!!

And, there’s more….

Next scenario—the one we all know and love: you have your FMSMF check. Careful now, there’s still another timeline: see that it doesn’t languish over 90 days in your wallet, files, or on top of the dresser drawer behind that picture of Grandpa Bill or Aunt Sue.

Keep in mind that the check is only valid for 90 days from the date in which it was issued. If your check is not cashed within that time period, the bank will not honor it and you may incur bank fees for what is then called a stale-dated check. At this point, another hassle ensues: returning the check and waiting for a new one! This being one of the busiest times at the Fund, we may not be able to reissue a replacement check for a couple of weeks. To avoid such delays, please be careful with your check.

Once again, it’s all about achieving that win/win situation. Let us partner with you in achieving the kind of harmonious relationship designed to ensure the accurate and prompt servicing of your Secondary Markets Fund account.
